Bryerswood Youth Camp Optimist Club Receives Round Two Investment Readiness Program Funding

Bryerswood Youth Camp Optimist Club (Bryerswood Optimist Club) has reached an agreement with Girl Guides of Canada – Guides du Canada (GGC) for the purchase GGC Camp Bryerswood located on Texas Road in Amherstburg. The property sale is projected to be completed in October 2021.

Bryerswood Optimist Club will provide outdoor experiences and programs to all youth in Windsor, Essex County and Chatham Kent at the new Bryerswood Youth Camp.  Youth in Windsor, Essex County and Chatham Kent will have the opportunity to learn outdoor recreation, leadership, environmental stewardship and life skills on a year-round basis.

In order to purchase the Bryerswood camp property, Bryerswood Optimist Club must raise $500,000 and currently has collected over $113,000. The Bryerswood Optimist Club is raising the balance of funds to complete the purchase. Donations and pledges can be made at BryerswoodYouthCamp.com, or by contacting the Funding Committee directly (info@bryerswood.com). Tax receipts are available for all donations.

Thanks to the support of the Government of Canada, the Investment Readiness Program funding of $28,900 will allow Bryerswood Optimist Club to purchase software for a registration and reservations system for facility rentals and youth programs which will be offered at the Bryerswood Youth Camp.

This initiative is part of the Investment Readiness Program, funded by the Government of Canada and is made possible through a grant from the WindsorEssex Community Foundation.

Bryerswood Optimist Club is incredibly grateful to be receiving this funding and is excited to begin offering this customer friendly registration service so that the youth of our community will be able to enjoy outstanding outdoor experiences and programs.

Optimist Club Purchases Camp Bryerswood For Area Youth

AMHERSTBURG, Ont.  December 18, 2020.  Bryerswood Youth Camp Optimist Club (Bryerswood Optimist Club/BYCOC) announced that a final agreement has been reached with Girl Guides of Canada – Guides du Canada (GGC) for the purchase by BYCOC of GGC Camp Bryerswood. The camp is situated in Amherstburg, Ontario. The purchase is projected to be completed October 30, 2021.

Kathi Poupard, President of Bryerswood Optimist Club, a registered charity, is excited about the opportunity to provide new outdoor experiences and programs to all youth in Windsor Essex.  Poupard says, “Owning and operating the Bryerswood camp will allow the Optimist Club to provide outdoor recreation, leadership, environmental stewardship and life skills, to all youth in Windsor and Essex County on a year-round basis.”  

Bryerswood Optimist Club has over $95,000 donated or pledged towards the $430,000 purchase price for Camp Bryerswood. Funds will be raised over the next year to fund the purchase. GGC will continue to operate Camp Bryerswood as a Girl Guide Camp until the sale is completed.

About Camp Bryerswood:

Camp Bryerswood is situated on 25 acres in rural Amherstburg and offers both residential and tent accommodations.  Facilities are available year-round. The property has three buildings, five cabins, and several tent sites. Other amenities include an archery range, a pond for nature study and basic canoeing, a playground, picnic pavilion and acreage for sports, cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

The property transfer is projected to be completed as early as April 2021.

Bryerswood Optimist Club will provide outdoor experiences and programs to all youth in Windsor Essex at Camp Bryerswood.  Youth in Windsor and Essex County will have the opportunity to learn outdoor recreation, leadership, environmental stewardship and life skills on a year- round basis.

In order to purchase Camp Bryerswood, Bryerswood Optimist Club must raise $450,000 and currently has over $130,000 donated or pledged. The Bryerswood Optimist Club is raising the balance of funds to complete the purchase. Thanks to the support of the Government of Canada, the Investment Readiness Program funding of $25,000 will allow Bryerswood Optimist Club to create Marketing and Branding materials to be used to promote the activities and programs offered to youth at Camp Bryerswood. A portion of the IRP funding will go to the creation of a master development plan for the camp property which will allow the club to coherently tackle the development and upgrading of facilities to ensure full accessibility.
